Golden Cap

Golden Cap is the highest point on the entire south coast of England at 191 meters (627 feet), offering breathtaking panoramic views stretching from Start Point in Devon to Portland Bill in Dorset. This spectacular National Trust headland features distinctive golden sandstone cliffs giving the peak its name, particularly stunning when caught by evening sunlight. The summit can be reached via several footpaths of varying difficulty, with the most popular route starting from Seatown. The climb is rewarded with truly spectacular 360-degree views encompassing coastline, countryside, and on clear days, as far as Dartmoor. The estate covers 2,000 acres of unspoilt cliffs, farmland, woodlands, and beaches, providing excellent walking opportunities and diverse wildlife habitats. Wild flowers carpet the clifftops in spring and summer, while butterflies and birds thrive in the varied landscape. The beach below offers fossil hunting. Golden Cap represents the Jurassic Coast at its finest – dramatic, beautiful, and geologically fascinating.
