South West Coast Path – Dorset Section

The Dorset section of the South West Coast Path traverses the entire Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site from Lyme Regis to Poole Harbour, forming part of England’s longest National Trail. This spectacular route passes iconic landmarks including Golden Cap (highest south coast point), Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Corfe Castle views, and Old Harry Rocks. The challenging trail rises and falls dramatically with every valley, accumulating over 30,000 feet of ascent along Dorset’s section alone. Walkers experience constantly changing geology, fossil hunting opportunities, stunning sea views, quaint coastal villages, and abundant wildlife. The path varies from gentle promenades to challenging cliff sections requiring good fitness. Excellent waymarking, information boards, and infrastructure support through-hikers and day walkers. The route connects to accommodation, pubs, and transport allowing flexible itineraries. Walking the Dorset Coast Path provides intimate engagement with Britain’s finest coastal scenery and world-class geology.
