Corfe Common & RSPB Hartland Moor

Corfe Common and Hartland Moor comprise extensive lowland heathland nature reserves protecting rare wildlife habitats and offering superb walking through beautiful Purbeck countryside. These adjacent reserves total over 500 acres of purple heather moorland, wetlands, peat bogs, and woodlands supporting exceptional biodiversity. The heathland is home to all six British reptile species including rare smooth snakes and sand lizards, plus Dartford warblers, nightjars, stonechats, and hobbies. Dragonflies, butterflies including silver-studded blues, and rare insects thrive in diverse habitats. Well-maintained trails wind through heather, past ponds, and across open heath offering peaceful walking with wildlife watching opportunities. Spring brings blooming gorse and birdsong, summer sees purple heather carpeting the moors, autumn offers rich colors, and winter provides stark beauty and wading birds. The reserves demonstrate successful lowland heath conservation. Free access, parking, and bird hides make wildlife watching accessible. The combination of rare species, beautiful landscapes, and good access creates excellent nature reserve experience.
