Burton Bradstock Beach

Burton Bradstock is a beautiful and relatively quiet shingle and sand beach backed by dramatic golden sandstone cliffs and rolling countryside. This charming West Dorset beach offers excellent fossil hunting, stunning coastal walks, and peaceful seaside atmosphere away from major tourist crowds. The distinctive buff-colored cliffs create spectacular natural beauty, particularly when caught by evening light. The beach features both shingle and sand areas, with the best sand revealed at low tide. Fossils including ammonites are regularly found, while the cliffs reveal fascinating geological layers. Burton Bradstock village sits just inland, a pretty settlement with thatched cottages, village pub, and shops. The South West Coast Path passes through, providing access to spectacular clifftop walks toward Chesil Beach or West Bay. The beach’s National Trust ownership ensures protection and good management. A seasonal beach café and parking make visits comfortable. The relatively difficult access preserves the beach’s tranquil character. Perfect for families seeking authentic, unspoilt Dorset coast.
