The Almshouse of Saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist, commonly known as Sherborne Almshouse, is a beautiful medieval charitable institution founded in the 15th century. This historic complex was established to provide accommodation for elderly and impoverished residents of Sherborne, continuing a tradition of Christian charity. The stone buildings feature excellent examples of late medieval architecture with mullioned windows, Gothic doorways, and peaceful courtyards. While the almshouse remains in use providing accommodation, the exterior and chapel are of significant historical and architectural interest. The building exemplifies medieval social welfare and Sherborne’s prosperous past, standing as testimony to centuries of community care and religious devotion.
