Kingston Lacy is a magnificent 17th-century mansion set within 8,500 acres of parkland, farmland, and woodland near Wimborne. Built 1663-1665 by Sir Roger Pratt for the Bankes family after Corfe Castle’s destruction, it was remodelled in the 1830s with Chilmark stone facing. The house contains Britain’s finest and oldest gentry art collection with works by Rubens, Van Dyck, Titian, and Tintoretto. The Egyptian Room houses the UK’s largest private collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Bequeathed to the National Trust in 1982 as their largest-ever gift, Kingston Lacy offers sumptuous interiors, beautiful Italianate gardens, fernery, and extensive parkland walks. The estate demonstrates centuries of aristocratic collecting, architectural evolution, and landscape design.
