Lambert’s Castle is a magnificent Iron Age hill fort managed by the National Trust, offering one of Dorset’s finest viewpoints and most exhilarating walks. Despite its name, there’s no castle – the ‘castle’ refers to the impressive Iron Age earthwork fortifications built around 2,500 years ago. The fort’s massive ramparts enclose approximately 11 acres on a commanding hilltop position. The site offers breathtaking panoramic views stretching from the Jurassic Coast to Dartmoor, encompassing vast swathes of Devon and Dorset countryside. The hill fort is surrounded by beautiful mixed woodland and open heathland supporting diverse wildlife including deer, buzzards, and rare butterflies. Excellent waymarked trails wind through the forest and across the fort’s ramparts. The combination of ancient history, spectacular views, woodland walks, and peaceful atmosphere makes Lambert’s Castle a favorite destination for walkers, history enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike.
